Conventional Tracker

Cam Solar Ganged Micro Tracker

As the size of a conventional tracker increases, the wind loading and torque on the pedestal increase at a super-linear rate     Ganged micro trackers maintain a low profile regrardless of how many are ganged together

The wind profile limits the surface area which can be tracked using conventional stepper motors     Ganged tracking can control up to 500m2 with a single pair of motors

The azimuth drive requires a large, complex machined gearset, which adds to the cost per square meter of tracked surface     Cam Solar ganged trackers can use conventional, mass-produced ballscrews for both axes

To resist wind loading, conventional trackers require a large mass of steel structure     Low profile trackers require much less steel

All of the wind loading passes through the small area at the base of the pedestal, and must be resisted by a large reinforced concrete foundation     Because ganged tracking systems are inherently flat, the wind loading is naturally spread across the whole array, so far less ballast is required

The long-term, high volume (7.5 million+ m2) minimum cost of producing conventional tracking is estimated to be $80 per m2     We aim to produce tracking in the medium term at high volume at $40 per m2
